Feature Writing

For my staff and publication, feature writing often means yearbook stories. Click on the headline to read the full story.

Two Lawrence students recently put on an event catered to bringing awareness to academic racism featuring voices from all around the community. This story felt more like storytelling and sharing the stories of the people who spoke.

Coming back from COVID, our video classes made a complete change to how announcements were presented to the student body.

During the pandemic, they screen recorded a Zoom meeting. Now, there are two hours of video students, two episodes produced per week, and dozens of roles that keep students busy. Starting in the fall of 2023, Room 308 Productions started to collaborate with The Budget.

Pack the House is an age old Lawrence High tradition and a chance to feature a multitude of students. In conjunction with many fun photos, it made for a contest winning spread and student favorite.

A month into the school year, Lawrence High's AP and Portfolio art students produced a show at a local coffeehouse.

This was something I decided to take photos of since our art students are often hard to cover. After attending, I decided to write a short story about the work they put up so quickly.

Graduation is always an emotional time for students, families and teachers. It is one of my favorite events to take photos at because of the range of emotion shown in the photos.

This was my first story I wrote for The Budget in my 21st Century Journalism class. Looking back now, it is cool to see not only my growth as a writer, but also the fact that I got to report on a mural that students and staff walk by everyday.
